Rodin’s Bust of Napoleon | A Masterpiece Hiding in Plain Sight

0 13

Hear the world’s leading Rodin expert, Jérôme Le Blay, describe how an email from a shrewd intern led to the rediscovery of a Rodin masterpiece thought to have been lost for 75 years. Auguste Rodin’s marble bust of Napoleon had been donated to the Hartley Dodge Foundation in Madison, New Jersey in the 1930s. It remained in the same spot, overlooked and forgotten until 2015 when Le Blay confirmed that it was not, in fact, a copy or a forgery. A unique masterpiece of significant importance in Rodin’s oeuvre, ‘Napoléon Enveloppé Dans Son Rêve” is a highlight of Sotheby’s upcoming Modern Art Evening Sale (9 October | Hong Kong).
