0 12

Napoleon’s distinctive Bicorne Hat came to be seen as the embodiment of the Emperor himself. In this episode of Sotheby’s Stories, learn about the hat which Napoleon wore throughout countless military campaigns and discover how it made him instantly recognisable on the battlefield. Crafted from beaver skin and decorated with a tricolour cocarde, this valued piece of clothing was depicted in works by artists such as James Ensor. With only 19 of these now left in existence, the Bicorne Hat is one of the few remaining testaments to Napoleon’s image and global influence. This unique accessory is just one of the highlights offered in the Sotheby’s ‘Les Arts sous Influence: Napoléon’ auction (15 – 22 September) SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/sothebys/?sub… FOR MORE NEWS FROM SOTHEBY’S
