14 auctions held over eight days achieved US$496 million – the second highest total ever for a sale series in Asia. Over 30 auction records were set, including a record high for Asia in Modern and Contemporary art sales. Among the record-setters were Chu Teh-Chun’s ‘Harmonie Hivernale, which sold for US$29.6 million, breaking the artist’s auction record for a second consecutive year at Sotheby’s. Pablo Picasso’s ‘Buste de Matador’ broke the artist’s auction record in Asia, being hammered down at US$18 million. Another record-setter was the Qing Dynasty Imperial Jade “Ji’Entang” Seal, which fetched US$18.8 million. This season also introduced a tight curation of luxury categories, which were blended together to include Jewels, Watches, Sneakers, Handbags and the inaugural Spirits live sale in Asia, which was led by the Black Bowmore Archive Cabinet. Consignor confidence and strong buyer demand was in evidence across all categories, including Wine, Watches, Jewellery, Chinese Works of Art and Chinese Paintings.
