Anna’s Illinois Garden

0 12

Today we’re in Elburn, Illinois, visiting Anna Kurian’s beautiful garden.

garden bed full of blooming perennialsAnna’s garden is a lush tangle of beautifully blooming perennials. Shasta daisies (Leucanthemum × superbum, Zones 4–9) just coming into bloom dominate the foreground, with lots of color behind.

catmintA brightly painted purple chair frame echoes the color of the catmint (Nepeta × faassenii, Zones 3–8). I’m sure those sculptures of butterflies are frequently joined by the real things in this flowery garden.

birdhouse above dayliliesBirds are welcome here, in a cheery red house, set among the buds of daylilies (Hemerocallis, Zones 4–9) about to burst into bloom.

white sweet alyssumA frog prince sits on a throne of white sweet alyssum (Lobularia maritima, annual).

Coreopsis grandifloraAn enormous splash of gold is provided by a very happy clump of Coreopsis grandiflora (Zones 4–9). The color is echoed by yellow-flowered sedum behind (probably Sedum kamtschaticum, Zones 3–8) and contrasts with the purple catmint and lupines (Lupinus polyphyllus, Zones 4–8) surrounding them.
