Subash Basrur has joined the Courtyard by Marriott Penang as General Manager.
Subash has a wealth of experience in the luxury hotel industry, having managed hotels in Australia, China and Japan.
Subash started his hospitality career as a chef at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai and has worked in several top culinary positions during his time with Starwood Hotels and Resorts across Australia and China in the early 90s.
In 2007, he moved to Japan as Executive Assistant Manager of the Hilton Narita, before returning to Beijing to work for The Regent Beijing and The St Regis Beijing. In 2011, he was appointed General Manager of the Sheraton Haikou Resort, his first appointment as GM.
Three years later, Subash returned home to lead the team at the Palazzo Versace in Queensland before heading back to China with the Sheraton Huizhou Beach Resort.
“With the Restricted Movement Control Order in place, we definitely see domestic travel thriving and we hope the newly opened Courtyard by Marriott Penang can be your home away from home in the beautiful island of Penang,” Subash said.
With over 3 decades in the hospitality industry, Subash is also working closely with KDU University College to educate the younger generation to develop skill sets needed for the hospitality industry.
